Actually, the V-Chip is a wonderful thing. We should all bow down and kiss the ass of Tipper Gore for forcing this stuff. See, here's how it worked...

The idiots in Congress decided they needed to do something about censoring what kids can see. The V-chip doesn't take the power away from parents - the parent still has to set it up. It blocks shows based on that shows rating - for example, South Park is rated TV-MA, and if you set the V-chip to block TV-MA shows, your kids are screwed.

Here's the beauty of this - it means that shows CAN BE TV-MA! You see, before they had the V-Chip, parents could complain that they couldn't control what their kids watched, so it shouldn't be on tv at all. They can't do that now, because with the v-chip THEY HAVE NO EXCUSE! It's a beautiful thing, and because of it we now have shows like The Shield, South Park, Drawn Together, Dave Chappelle, etc, being to push boundaries that they could not have pushed without it.

Thank you, idiots in Congress, for getting something right by accident!

It's funny that you bring this up, because I see that stupid V-Chip add with the kid in the cowboy hat every week before the Shield and have no idea if my TV even has one!

BIf my TV does have one (which it sounds like it has to) I've never done a damn thing with it.

Almost no one ever has. I find it so tremendously ironic that because boneheads complained about too much sex and violence on tv, they managed to end up with a system that allows even MORE violence and sex on tv. And they think they won.

It's a beautiful thing, it is.

And it goes right to, "This show is rated TV-MA. It contains strong violence, language and nudity and may not be suitable for children under 17," or something along those lines.
